"Battery" 2010-01-10

The speakers are very good trust me but when you turn it on the light that indicates that the speakers are on is very strong you can actually use it as a flashlight and therefore the battery goes out so fast. Other than that the speakers are great!
"" For the money"- Great!" 2009-12-29

Consider this a throw away when it stops working.. until then.. enjoy.
I'm using it with my iPod over my gun bench and it sounds good, works good, is good.. it's so cheap you can't go wrong for the money.
"sound quality is below average." 2009-12-16

it does not look like the one on the picture.
1. no brand, no manufacture, no brochure ot anything. should be a OEM thing.
2. quality is very bad materials, connection and esp. the sound.
"How can you go wrong?" 2009-12-05

For the price, how can you go wrong?
I bought these speakers for a 21 day Grand Canyon Raft trip. I needed something small and compact, something that worked on batteries, and most importantly something that could be abused.
I was happy with the battery life, and the sound was good although many of the other people on my trip had much better sounding systems. However for the price these are almost disposable, and when some of the other speakers on the trip broke or were generally being abused I was still glad to bring these out and not worry about damage.
By the end of the trip these are gritty from the sand and the plastic is well worn/scratched, but they still work great.
"For almost free they're worth it but just barely" 2009-12-05

The sound is good but occasionally distorted. I think it comes down to your tolerance for bad sound, keeping in mind that the sound quality will be with you long after the savings has worn off. (It has outstanding sound for a $2 speaker and that doesn't mean it's particularly pleasant to listen to.)
If you plan on traveling with portable speakers and want to minimize bulk, keep the cost reasonable, and have a somewhat better listening experience consider this: iLuv iSP100BLK Mini Portable Speaker for MP3 Players and iPod (Black). It's more compact, more durable, and has considerably better sound.
To put it in perspective, I'm on a business trip and was given one of these (the INSTEN) as a "thank you" for filling out a survey. I've decided it's worth tossing it in my suitcase for the trip home... but just barely. However, the next time I travel and want to take along a portable speaker it won't be this one.
